ISLAMABAD: After scores of complaints were received by senior officers about lack of cooperation from police,Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operation) Afzaal Ahmed Kausar issued instructions to relevant officers directing them to address people’s grievances.

Officers have been asked to address grievances of the complainants before Friday, take certificates of satisfaction from them and submit the same to the DIG’s office.

Senior police officers, on condition of anonymity, said that complainants of murder, attempted murder, heinous crime, robbery, kidnaping and rape lodged complaints to the DIG about noncooperation, unprofessional and causal attitude of police, besides, delay in investigations. They also told him that investigation officers, station house officers, sub-divisional officers and superintendents of police neither meet or keep in touch with them. The DIG scolded the officers concerned and asked them to address people’s grievances as soon as possible, the officials added.

A letter issued from the DIG’s office on Monday, addressed to SSP Operation Dr Mustafa Tanveer stated that keeping complaints in view, strict instructions have been issued to officers concerned to utilise resources to provide justice. All officers against whom the complaints were lodged, would obtain certificates from the complainants confirming that they met them and addressed their issues, the officials said while quoting the letter, adding the certificates will be submitted to the DIG’s office by April 30.

Director Media Assistant Inspector General of Police Mohammad Usman Tipu said that this was a routine matter as senior officers often ask their subordinates to meet complainants for resolution of their issues.
