Four held for torture of mentally ill man

FAISALABAD: Police arrested four people for allegedly tying a mentally challenged man with an electric pole and subjecting him to torture on charge of theft in Tandlianwala on Tuesday.

Footage of the torture went viral on the social media, showing a man in trousers tied with a pole and two men beating him on his back with the wooden sticks.

Prior to the torture, a man standing nearby him used foul language against the victim, identified as Mohsin Malang.

The locals said the victim was mentally challenged and he kept screaming due to pain.

Imran Hashmi, a brother of the victim, submitting an application with the City Tandlianwala police said the suspects, Abu Bakar, Suffyan, Shera and Allah Yar of Rasoolpura, had dragged Malang in the street and tied with an electric pole.

He said the sticks used to torture Malang had nails and he received injuries on different body parts.

Due to the torture, he said Malang fainted and was shifted to the hospital, where was under treatment.

Police said a case had been registered against seven people and four of them who were named in the FIR had been arrested.
