Rare snowfall on Shangla mountains

SHANGLA: The mountains in Shangla district received snowfall on Tuesday, a rare phenomenon which has not occurred after mid April during the last 40 years.

Farmers expressed fear over delay in cultivation of maize crop due to continuing rains and snowfall.

The off-season snowfall on the mountains turned the weather chilly as cold winds started blowing across the district.

Sultan Ahmed, a farmer, said he had planned to cultivate maize crop in his fields, but the cold weather and snowfall would definitely delay the cultivation.

He said heavy rain, hailstorm and snowfall had been continuing for over a week due to which they were unable to cultivate maize crop.
