5,478 scholarships for KP students

PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Imran Khan has formally launched Rehmatul Lil Alameen Scholarship programme under Ehsaas Initiative to provide financial assistance to the talented and needy students.

A ceremony in this regard was held in Islamabad on Thursday. Chief ministers Mahmood Khan and Usman Buzdar attended the meeting through video link, says a statement issued here.

Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan said that of 5,478 scholarships under the programme a total of 878 worth Rs340 million would be provided to students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in higher education sector while in elementary and secondary education sector 4,600 scholarships would be provided with the total cost of Rs230 million.

He said that 50 per cent scholarships would be given on merit and 50 per cent on need basis.

The chief minister termed the scholarship programme as an education-friendly initiative of the government, saying this would prove to be another milestone achievement towards establishing an Islamic welfare state.

He said that promotion of quality education in the province was the top-most priority of the provincial government since day first.

He said that multiple scholarship programmes had already been launched by the provincial government to provide financial assistance to talented and needy students.
