THIS refers to the report ‘Opposition doesn’t matter now, says Imran’ (April 6). We can draw two conclusions from the statement. One, that in the recent past, the opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) would have mattered to the government had it played its cards properly and in unison. Two, since the opposition does not matter any longer, what now does matter is the government’s performance in the remaining part of its five-year tenure.

However, it is not difficult to predict that the current circumstances may very well leave us with a hung parliament in 2023, thereby forcing political forces to cobble together a workable coalition. The prospects do not seem to be very encouraging.
