Five burnt in blaze after transformer explosion

CHINIOT: Five people were burnt when a transformer installed by the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) at Tehsil Chowk burst and caught fire on Friday.

The fire erupted soon after the transformer explosion and in no time engulfed the people standing close to it. Babar Ali, a resident of Chiniot city, Ghulam Murtaza of Jhok Malia village, Tariq Nawaz and Abdul Razzak of Chak 12 JB, and Muhammad Iqbal of Chak 138 JB suffered burns and were shifted to the DHQ hospital by a team of the Rescue 1122.

Four motorcycles and two rickshaws were gutted in the fire.

Civil Defence Officer Muhammad Siddiq, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Riaz and Assistant Commissioner Ghazala Kanwal supervised the blaze controlling operation.

BUSES IMPOUNDED: District Regional Transport Authority Secretary Arooj Fatima on Friday inspected passenger vans and buses and had three of these impounded for inadequate arrangements to prevent Covid. She also imposed Rs20,000 fine on the violators of the SOPs.
