LAHORE: The Covid-19 death toll in Punjab reached 6,427 after 64 more critical patients succumbed to the virus across the province during the last 24 hours.
As per the figures released by the provincial government on Thursday, the province reported 2,789 new infections during the same period, taking the number of total positive cases to 223,181 in Punjab so far.
Among the total 36 Punjab districts, Lahore has been reporting the maximum numbers with 2,626 Covid deaths and total 118,594 positive cases.
Similarly, out of total new infections, Lahore recorded 1,708 positive cases during the last 24 hours. It is said to be the second-highest number of new infections in a day reported in Lahore since March last year.
Other positive cases appeared in Attock, Chakwal, Jhang, Sheikhupura, Lodhran, Bahawalnagar, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Gujrat, Khushab, Okara, Rajanpur, Pakpattan, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Vehari, Rahim Yar Khan, Chiniot, etc.
A spokesperson for the health department said the teams performed 22,624 Covid tests during the last 24 hours in Punjab. He said as many as 1,294 Covid patients also recovered in the province during the same period.
