KARACHI: Calm now prevails in major cities, and throughout the countryside of East Pakistan, Radio Pakistan reported yesterday [March 28]. The Radio quoted a statement issued by the Martial Law Administrator in Dacca yesterday afternoon which said that there were no untoward incidents in Dacca, Jessore, Rangpur, Saidpur, Comilla and Sylhet. ...[T]he Martial Law Administrator, Zone “B” Lt-Gen. Outlawed A.L. funds frozen: The Chief Martial Law Administrator yesterday [March 28] froze the funds of the outlawed Awami League and ordered banks not to make any transaction in respect of these funds. ... He also directed any person holding in cash or in his own account or in the account of the Awami League, the funds of the said League to submit to the headquarters of the CMLA within 30 days the details of receipts, deposits, withdrawals, transfers and expenditures made in respect of such funds since March 26.

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Peshawar,] Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan, President of the Pakistan Muslim League, said ... that the Awami League’s six-point programme was an “act of secession” and an “open act of treason”, and described the Government’s action in East Pakistan as “right, timely and fully justified” to save the country.
