SHANGLA: Peshawar Electric Supply Company has disconnected power supply to three union councils of Martung tehsil for not paying bills timely.
The residents of the affected union councils told journalists after a meeting in Dab area of Martung tehsil that Pesco had disconnected power supply to their areas seven days ago. They said that there was complete blackout in the area.
Khalid Khan, sub-divisional officer of Pesco, also confirmed that power supply was suspended to Kabalgram, Dedal, Kamach, Behar, Dankol, Dehrai, Naway Kallayy and other areas.
He said that the power supply to those areas was disconnected on the direction of Pesco high-ups as consumers were mostly defaulters and reluctant to pay bills. They said that more than Rs9 million was outstanding against them.
Sultan Nabi, a former district councillor, said that Pesco disconnected power supply to their areas for the second time. He said that they received inflated bills.
He claimed that they paid bills on time. He added that there might be some consumers, who did not pay bills, but for that reason putting all consumers in trouble was not justified.
Mr Nabi said that power supply to their areas was disconnected on the directives of government because their MPA belonged to opposition.
Ibadullah, a social activist, said that they had donated their precious lands for construction of Tarbela Dam but despite that they were deprived of the electricity.
He said that they would take to streets if electricity was not restored to their areas within two days.
According to Pesco sub-division, Puran, there were 10,970 consumers in the areas and 6, 113 of them were defaulters.
