LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the capital city police officer (CCPO) to decide, in accordance with the law, an application of Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation seeking security for its event to mark 90th death anniversary of Bhagat Singh at Fawara Chowk, Shadman.

Advocate Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, the chairman of the foundation, had filed a petition pleading that they observe the death anniversary of Bhagat Singh at Fawara Chowk every year.

He said the applications had been filed with police and the district administration for security to the event on March 23.

He said the authorities had not passed any order on the application despite an undertaking to observe the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs). He pointed out that the court had, in the past years, ordered the government to ensure security of the event.

Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem disposed of the petition, issuing directions for the CCPO.
