From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1946: Seventy-five years ago: A quisling Premier

FROM all available sources of authentic information it now appears almost certain that Malik Khizr Hyat Khan Tiwana will be the quisling Premier of the Punjab with the support of the Akalis and the Congress.

The Muslim League Party having refused to compromise on the Pakistan issue, the talks with the Akalis for coalition are regarded now as failed. …A Muslim spokesman in an interview said: “Attempt of the Hindu Congress to rule the Punjab Muslims with the help of quislings in the face of the overwhelming verdict of the people will lead to disastrous consequences in the Punjab.” Coalition moves by the various parties aimed at the formation of a ministry in the Punjab reached a climax on Saturday [March 2] evening by the sudden and unexpected meeting between the Congress President and principal League Party leaders, for what is described as “exploratory talks,” says A.P.A.

Nawab of Mamdot, leader of the Muslim League Party, accompanied by Sir Firoz Khan Noon and Sardar Shaukat Hyat Khan called on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad…. It is understood that the League leaders have contacted the Congress President to explore the possibility of forming a coalition with the Congress….
