RAWALPINDI: Five people lost their lives to Covid-19 in the twin cities while 81 positive cases were reported on Wednesday. Around 16 people were discharged from hospitals in district Rawalpindi after recovering. Positivity rate in the capital stood at 1pc.

Shagufta Majeed, 51, resident of Gulshanabad, was brought to Quaid-i-Azam Hospital on Feb 1 where she passed away on Wednesday. Zohra Jabeen, 62, resident of Airport Housing Society, was admitted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Feb 2 but died on Wednesday.

Officials from the capital administration said one man from the age group of 40-49 and two women, each from the age groups of 50-59 and 70-79 died in Islamabad. Addresses of the deceased are not known.

As many as 267 active patients are currently present in Rawalpindi district with 63 in hospitals and 204 patients home isolated.

Nine patients are admitted in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 22 in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH), 12 in Holy Family Hospital (HFH), one in Red Crescent Hospital (RCH), two in Hearts International Hospital, one at Begum Akhter Sultana Memorial Trust Hospital and 16 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU).

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that eight patients are critically ill and on ventilator in Rawalpindi, 40 are on oxygen support and 15 are stable.

He said 16,910 people tested positive for Covid-19 since March 2020 including 13,747 in Rawalpindi - 12,568 from the district and 1,179 from out of the district; 1,223 in Attock - 1,192 from the district and 31 from out of the district; 1,325 in Jhelum and 615 in Chakwal.
