Opinion: Homework, a nightmare or a blessing?

There are multiple theories and opinions about whether students should get homework or not. The discussion of homework leads to lots of arguments. I will tell you all the reasons why homework should be given to pupils.

Homework is an important part of learning because it improves many skills. An example of this is that it makes pupils responsible and self-sufficient by doing work for themselves. It can also help build problem-solving skills as it teaches students self-motivation.

Another skill this home-assignment improves is memory skills. When students revise their school work, it improves their mental ability and builds their cognition skills. Assignments help students acquire life skills such as organisation, goal-setting and perseverance. Their future will have several obstacles and this practice allows students to persevere with these challenges.

Home-based assignments are advantageous as they make pupils retain information. It furthers the practice of work done at school and enables better recall of topics discussed. Additionally, it adds value to the saying ‘Practice makes perfect’.

Through the homework submitted, teachers can see what each pupil needs assistance with, as educators can make students understand topics better. Additionally, students can learn from their mistakes. If you do your homework, you will get good grades. This is because homework is a big part of school and it helps you reinforce the things you have learned at school. It will also help you get into good universities.

Bonding with family and friends is an important aspect of home-based school work. When you are doing work at home, you can spend time with your family. Parents make connection with children though supervision or guidance when a child is doing homework, which adds to the time the family spends together.

Pupils usually make study groups when they do certain type of assignments. This adds to an enjoyable and effective experience overall. Additionally, it leads to the development of social skills. Students can teach each other whatever they are better at. That simply is productively helping everyone.

The ongoing pandemic of coronavirus has further stressed the importance of home-based school work. All educational activities during this period has been stressed and accomplished from individuals based at home. And this has added to positive output during a time when the world has been mostly shut down. There have been many students who graduated during this home-based working system, thereby adding further strength to the value and role of this mechanism.

Home-based schooling is no alternate to normal school attended work, yet it has significant value and proposition in education. Learning is an art and an acquired human skill, which must be propagated thoroughly without prejudice. It should also be remembered that before formal education became a reality, knowledge and practice was primarily a home-based mechanism.

Be ready for the times ahead, do your homework today. Learn and refine your skills and then see the path that clears up for you.
