PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have sought Rs1.73 billion for revamping the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) across the province.

A statement issued here said that KP police chief Sanaullah Abbasi was informed during his visit to the CTD headquarters that of this Rs588 million would be spent on buying security and intelligence equipment, including jammer-fitted vehicles, GSM locators, thermal binoculars, aerial surveillance drones and communication tools, for use in the merged tribal districts.

Mr Abbasi was informed that steps had been taken for strengthening of CTD network and technology-driven policing.

The statement said that for this purpose equipment worth Rs150 million had been purchased which had played a pivotal role in promoting latest intelligence-based policing and combating terrorism in the area.

The meeting was informed that besides posting of CTD officials in merged districts, 715 new vacancies were sanctioned for which rules had been framed and sent to the government for approval. He said the recruitment in this regard would be started shortly.

The meeting was also informed that a summary had already been sent to the government for purchase of seven bulletproof vehicles for merged districts.

The police chief was briefed about revamping of CTD particularly its extension to merged districts and manpower requirements.

Mr Abbasi appreciated the performance of CTD in flushing out terrorists from the province and asked the officials to make best use of modern technology.
