Thrashing of police: Transpersons set on bail a day after arrest

CHINIOT: Five transpersons were released on bail a day after they were held for beating policemen.

A team of the city police raided the residences of transpersons and arrested five of them for thrashing policemen who raided an event they had been performing at. Later, they were produced before the magistrate who ordered their release on bail.

A number of transpersons gathered outside courts and blasted police for arresting them. They told reporters that police had not taken any action against their colleagues who demanded bribe from them and instead registered a false and fabricated case against them.

Police spokesperson Mohsin Hassan said the transpersons were arrested after their identification in a footage in which they were seen beating policemen who raided a party being organised in violation of Covid-19 SOPs. Police registered a case against them a few days ago.

DRUGS: Police have seized drugs from a person during checking of a vehicle.

DSP City Khalid Hussain said a team stopped a wagon and found 25kg charas and 16kg opium in the compartments.

They arrested drug dealer Zeeshan who was transporting these drugs to Jhang.

A case under section 9-c of Control of Narcotics Act, 1996 was registered by the city police station, he added.
