JI to award 50pc LG poll tickets to youth

MANSEHRA: Jamaat-i-Islami Youth Wing’s central president Zubair Ahmad Gondal has said his party will award over 50 per cent of the tickets for the next local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to youth.

“The Jamaat-i-Islami has decided to provide youngsters with an opportunity to contest the local government elections so that they, after election, help address challenges like corruption and bad governance,” Mr Gondal told a ceremony held in Oghi area for the oath-taking of the party’s newly-elected district youth body president, Hafeezur Rehman.

JI district president Dr Tariq Shirazi and JI Youth Wing leader Hafeezullah Khaksar also addressed the event.

Mr Gondal said the PTI had come to power with the support of youngsters but it later completely ignored them and didn’t do anything tangible for their development.

KILLED: A woman was killed over an old enmity in Hilkot Dehri area here on Tuesday.

Mohammad Mustafa told the Battal police that Sartaj barged into his house and killed his wife, who sat next to him in the kitchen.

The body was handed over to the family after the doctors fulfilled medicolegal formalities.

The police registered an FIR and began raids to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, the residents of Jabar village here have complained about the unavailability of drinking water, saying over 6,000 feet long pipeline laid for the purpose has been stolen.

“Over 6,000 feet long pipeline laid for our only water scheme was stolen two years ago and since then, we have to fetch water from far-off springs and streams,” local elder Munir Hussain Shah told reporters in Jabori area on Tuesday.

Led by Mr Shah, the residents of Jabar village complained that they took up the issue with the local lawmakers, but to no avail.
