Gunmen kill salon owner in robbery

LAHORE: A salon owner was shot dead while a shopkeeper was injured critically by two gunmen on Allama Iqbal Road on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Ijaz (40) and the injured man as Ashfaq (35).

According to the police, two gunmen riding a motorcycle came to the salon and one of them snatched cash and mobile phones from owner Ijaz. Later, he went to the adjoining shop, where shopkeeper Ashfaq captured him and raised an alarm. Ijaz also came out of the shop to help him.

The other gunman who was with the motorcycle shot at and injured both Ijaz and Ashfaq and fled with the looted cash.

The police said despite being injured, Ashfaq did not let the captured gunman go. Hearing gunshots, the Dolphin personnel who were patrolling the road rushed to the site and took the gunman into custody.

Ijaz, however, died at the scene while Ashfaq was shifted to a nearby hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

The police intensified patrolling and picketing in the area for the arrest of the other robber who fled with Rs550,000, looted from both shops.
