Sewage-plagued streets a nuisance for residents

NAROWAL: Seven streets have been submerged under dirty water for a month due to closure of the sewerage system.

Citizens have protested against the inappropriate behaviour of the assistant commissioner of Shakargarh.

Due to the closure of sewerage system at Mohallah Rashidpura of Shakargarh tehsil, dirty water has accumulated in seven streets including Chauhan Chowk. Hundreds of locals have been trapped in their homes due to the accumulation of sewage in the streets. Local residents Muhammad Hafeez and Abdul Rehman Malik said that knee-deep water had accumulated in the streets for the past one month. Women and children pass through the sewage and go for shopping in the markets.

Citizens and old people have to go through dirty water to go to the mosque to offer prayers. He said that several times senior citizens have also been injured after falling into dirty water. Citizens are facing severe problems due to dirty water accumulated in the streets.

Mohammad Hafeez said that the foundations of the houses were being severely damaged due to the dirty water accumulated in the streets. He said that if water continued to accumulate in the streets for a few more days, the houses of the citizens would start collapsing. Falling walls and roofs of houses pose a serious threat to the lives and property of citizens.

Habib Akram and Nasrullah Gujjar said that they had sent applications to Assistant Commissioner Shakargarh and other officers including deputy commissioner for solution of public problems but no one is ready to solve the problem of sewage.

Citizens said that Assistant Commissioner Shakargarh’s attitude towards citizens was inappropriate. He said that instead of solving the problems of the citizens, he humiliate the applicants.

Amjad Ali said that an application was also sent to the DC open court but no one has taken notice so far.
