Pims employees continue protest against MTI ordinance

ISLAMABAD: Employees of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) continued their protest on Friday against the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Ordinance, which states that the hospital will be run by a board of governors (BoG).

Protesters said they will continue struggling until the ordinance is withdrawn.

Spokesperson of Grad Health Alliance Dr Hyder Abbasi said front line health workers are on the roads of Islamabad against MTI, which should be a matter of concern for policy makers.

He said the government should immediately address the concerns of health care workers on a priority basis, adding, they stand united under the leadership of Dr Asfandyar Khan.

The government will have to take back the controversial MTI, he added.

β€œOn Thursday, employees had a successful protest at D-Chowk and we will continue it till our demands are met. All employees and their organisations including YDA, YCA, Paramedics association, nursing associations, officers [non gazetted and accounts] are united,” he said.

Apart from others, All Pakistan Paramedics Association leader Sharafatullah Khan also addressed protesting employees. Other speakers were Dr Tariq, Nawaz Lali, Saeed Marwat, Liaqat Ogahi, Rabnawaz Lanjar, Shahid Jan Khattak, Jawad Khan, Tariq Mattu and others.
