A bridge in disrepair
THE Naseer Canal bridge, situated at Mirwah Road in Tando Allahyar, was built over 40 years ago and is in a pathetic condition today owing to lack of maintenance and timely repair works. It has been damaged at various places. The bridge plays a critical role of linking a number of villages. People are forced to take alternative routes, but it is like risking their lives as hundreds of vehicles use those roads and the poor villagers have to constantly keep an eye on the fast-moving traffic. Also, all such routes increase the distance these villagers have to travel compared to the distance when they were able to use the Naseer Canal bridge.
The provincial irrigation department is urged to take steps to restore and renovate the bridge to facilitate the life of thousands of villagers.
