Expelled JUI-F leader rejects splinter group possibility

LOWER DIR: Former Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl leader Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan has said he will use ‘constitutional means’ for the restoration of his basic membership terminated by the party.

Mr Gul Naseeb told a news conference in his house here on Saturday that he would neither quit the party nor would he form a splinter group in it.

“The JUI is our party and we will continue with our struggle for the enforcement of Islamic laws from its platform,” he said.

The former JUI-F leader said the party didn’t inform him about membership termination in writing and he learned about it from the media.

He said the party neither served a show cause notice on him nor did it give 15-day time for explanation though it was mandatory to do so.

Mr Gul Naseeb said if the news about his expulsion from the party was true, the move was unconstitutional, undemocratic and hasty.

“We do not believe in hereditary form of politics,” he said, adding that the party’s constitution, too, didn’t support it.

The former JUI-F leader said the party was a democratic one and believed in democracy.

“We won’t make any compromise on democratic principles,” he said.

Mr Gul Naseeb said the four party leaders, whose basic membership was terminated, would meet next Tuesday to decide the future course of action.

“Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani has convened a meeting in Islamabad on Dec 29 during which the future line of action will be decided,” he said.
