Cold wave set to hit Karachi tonight
KARACHI: Severe cold conditions combined with occasional gusty winds are likely to grip the city from Monday till Friday with temperature dropping to a single digit for four to five days, an official of the Meteorological department stated on Saturday.
“Low temperature in the south would be an after-effect of the weather system currently passing through the northern parts of the country, causing rain and snowfall there,” said Dr Khalid Malik, the Met department spokesperson.
The change in weather conditions would likely start making its presence felt by Sunday night, he added.
He said that it was a normal phenomenon that a weather system led to the development of a high pressure area due to which winds blew from the north to the south.
According to Dr Malik, Karachi’s 10-year lowest temperature of December is six degrees Celsius whereas the average temperature of this month is 13 degrees Celsius.
The cold wave is likely to reduce its intensity by Friday.
Meanwhile, the minimum and maximum temperatures recorded on Saturday were 10.5 and 27.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The minimum temperature forecast for Sunday is 8-10 degrees Celsius.
