KARACHI: Speakers at a memorial meeting held at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) on Thursday paid rich tributes to Prof Noor Ahmed Baloch, a former principal of Chandka Medical College (CMC), Larkana.

Prof Baloch has recently passed away in Toronto, Canada.

“Baloch Sahib, as he was fondly addressed, left an unparalleled legacy of serving patients and teaching students and residents,” remarked SIUT director Prof Adib Rizvi, who presided over the event.

Recalling his services, Prof Rizvi said Baloch Sahib accomplished the challenging task of setting up a specialty in urology at the CMC, the first of its kind in Sindh.

Another contribution of Prof Baloch, he pointed out, was establishment of the Centre of Urology in Larkana, which was equipped with lithotripters.

“This, again, happened to be the first such facility in the upper part of the province. Prof Baloch will always be remembered not only as an outstanding surgeon, but also as an excellent teacher and a competent hospital administrator.”

Prof Baloch was the CMC principal from 1983 to 1984 and then served as medical superintendent there from 1989 to 1990. He was a professor of urology in the subsequent years till his retirement in 2001.

The late professor also has the distinction of serving SIUT as the chief controller examinations and later as a trustee till death.

The memorial meeting was also addressed online by his family members in Canada. The speakers included Dr Anwar Naqvi, Dr Zafar Husain, Dr Altaf Hashmi, Dr Murli Lal and Dr Buksh Ali.
