Father throws five children into canal; two drown, three missing

KASUR: A man threw his five childreninto BS Link canal near Jamber village after a quarrel with his wife on Saturday.

Divers fished out the bodies of two children and were looking for the others who were feared to be drowned.

Police claimed to have arrested Muhammad Ibrahim, a rickshaw driver, from the place of the incident - BS Link canal. A heavy contingent of police and officials of the Rescue 1122 and local administration reached the spot.

Police said Ibrahim, 40, would often quarrel with his wife Razia Bibi who went to her parents’ to stay with them at Manga. Ibrahim, according to police, objected to the presence of permanent guest Shamim Bibi (a friend of Razia Bibi) at his house and wanted Shamim to leave his house over which Razia left the house.

According to locals, quarrel between the husband and wife was the order of the day over petty issues such as financial worries.

Ibrahim went to the house of his in-laws to see his children where the couple exchanged harsh words. Later, Ibrahim took his children Muhammad Ahmed, 2, Fiza Bibi, 4, Nafeesa Bibi, 5, Muhammad Zain, 8, and Nadia Perveen, 10, to the BS-Link canal near Jamber village by his rickshaw and threw them into the canal one by one.

Teams of the Rescue 1122 and local police rushed to the spot and started looking for the children. The divers recovered the bodies of Ahmed and Fiza Bibi and were searching for others till last reports came in.

Police arrested the man and are investigating.
