THE second wave of Covid-19 in Pakistan – as predicted by experts – is proving to be more widespread and deadlier than the first one. While the government appears to have its hands full in dealing with the latest outbreak, political parties seem least concerned. In recent days the nation has witnessed mass gatherings in terms of political rallies, elections and funerals across the political divide.

Sadly, people are also not observing social distancing or SOPs at the individual level. The transmission of coronavirus has been accelerated by people dining out, arranging get-togethers, attending parties and visiting malls without taking due precautions.

The federal and provincial governments really need to restrain people from unnecessary socialising.
