CM asks Opp to avoid public events over virus surge

LAHORE: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has asserted that law will take its course over any violation of the coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs), and asked the opposition to display better sense and avoid public meetings that may multiply the virus cases in Punjab.

The chief minister in a meeting here with parliamentarians on Saturday regretted that the opposition parties’ attitude under the current circumstances was deplorable. “The [Pakistan Democratic Movement] is literally playing with the lives of people by organising public meetings when the coronavirus spread is raging,” he said.

He maintained that the government was taking all preventive, diagnostic and treatment measures to protect the people from Covid-19 infections, but regretted that the opposition parties were busy doing politics and only giving mere statements about the health of people.

He stressed that the opposition should stand with the people in these trying times just as the government was.

Mr Buzdar said the PDM was a group of rejected political parties that had no agenda for public welfare, but was craving to get back into power.

He reiterated that the opposition parties’ public meetings posed no threat to the government.
