Call for liaison among stakeholders for Karachi’s uplift

KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday stressed the need for coordination among different stakeholders for economic growth and development in Karachi.

Speaking to a delegation of the Sindh Industrial Liaison Committee (SILC), the president urged industrialists to join hands with the government for resolution of issues faced by the business community.

According to a statement, the president also called for collective efforts for development and making the country an industrial hub.

“A consortium is needed to be formed for planning and implementation of new projects and for better facilitation of new industrialists,” the statement quoted President Alvi as saying while replying to queries of industrialists.

The president also urged K-Electric to ensure uninterrupted power supply to industries by placing separate feeders. He also emphasised that special measures would be taken for infrastructure development and water supply schemes for better working of factories in the megacity.

“The mass transit programme will solve problems of industrial workers,” he said. “A criteria for establishing an advisory committee is needed to be formulated for better implementation of Karachi transformation plan. There is a need for one-window operation for early disposal and verification of cases for establishment of new industries.”

According to the statement, President Alvi said that development of Special Economic Zones was the key to robust growth of industrial sector as China had also developed its industries through SEZs.

He urged industrialists to join hands with the government for developing and setting up industries in potential economic zones.
