KP Bar Council elections to be held today

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council elections for the 2021-25 term will be held on Saturday (today) with 114 candidates running for the 28 seats.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General Shumail Ahmad Butt, who is the council’s chairman and also the returning officer for the polls, has issued the final list of candidates. Ahmad Farooq Khattak has already been elected unopposed as the council member from Karak district.

In the district-wise allocation of seats Peshawar has seven seats, Mardan and Abbottabad two each; Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Mansehra and Batagram have two joint seats; Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Haripur, Swat and Chitral have one seat each; Kohat, Hangu, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Malakand, Upper and Lower Dir have one joint seat.

According to the final list, 46 candidates have been contesting from Peshawar, 10 from Abbottabad, eight from Mardan, six each from Haripur and Mansehra, five from Dera Ismail Khan/Tank, four each from Charsadda, Swabi, Swat and Malakand/Buner, three each from Nowshera, Kohat/Hangu, Lakki Marwat, and two each from Bannu, Upper and Lower Dir, Shangla/Kohistan and Chitral.

The official result will be declared on Dec 8.

The candidates have been engaged in hectic campaigning province-wide since last over a month, canvassing on the premises of the Peshawar High Court, the district courts as well as visiting chambers of lawyers.
