From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1970: Fifty Years Ago: Kashmiris are determined

SIALKOT: Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah has said that the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir have not accepted the accession of the state to India and would never accept it. According to a report from across the cease-fire line, he said this while addressing a big gathering at the famous Hazratbal shrine near Srinagar.

Sheikh Sahib said the present unrest clearly showed that the people are not satisfied with the existing status of the state and they were determined to recast it according to their will. Sheikh Abdullah said to say that the Kashmir issue has been finally settled, as claimed by the Indian leaders and their stooges in the occupied state, was an attempt at belying facts and distorting realities. He also asked the Indians to give up their imperialistic tactics for prolonging their colonial hold on the Valley.

Referring to the propaganda campaign launched by the Indian puppets Sadiq and Syed Mir Qasim since November 18 during their winter tour of the Kashmir Province to poison public opinion against him and Mirza Afsal Beg, he said such tricks would never succeed in hoodwinking the people because they have seen through the Indian game. … Sheikh Abdullah said that the right of self-determination was the birthright of the Kashmiris…. — Agency
