Duties waived on PPEs

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has exempted customs duty, regulatory duty and additional customs duty on import of 61 diagnostic support and personal protective equipment (PPEs) for a period of seven months in order to reduce the rising prices in the domestic market.

The decision on duty waiver came through SRO1251 issued by the FBR on Tuesday.

The notification will come into effect retrospectively from Oct 1, 2020 and will remain effective till June 30, 2021.

Through another notification SRO1250, the FBR has also proposed amendments to the Income Tax Rules. The government is providing legal cover for serving notice on taxpayers by commissioner or chief commissioner on the cellphone registered in the name of a person as per record of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

Feedback sought from all stakeholders on the amendments within a period of seven days.
