Teacher held for beating student

RAWALPINDI: A seminary teacher was arrested on the charge of beating up a student in Pirwadhai on Sunday.

Sheraz Akhtar Lodhi, a resident of Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, lodged an FIR with Pirwadhai police, stating that his 11-year-old nephew, who lives with him, informed him that he was beaten up with a stick by two clerics because he made noise during class. He said there were bruises on the boy’s body.He said he along with some people from his neighborhood went to the seminary to inquire about the incident from both the clerics. However, one of the clerics, upon hearing that the victim and his uncle were on their way to the seminary, disappeared.

Raids are being conducted by police to arrest him. The victim was taken to hospital for medical examination.

Separately, the inspector general of police has asked divisional police chiefs to direct officers and officials to wear uniforms while on duty.

According to a directive issued by Syed Khuram Ali (DIG headquarters), all officers and officials of executive staff posted in all branches and units of Punjab police including those posted in Central Police Office shall wear uniforms while performing their duties.

Officials serving in investigation branch, Special Branch, Counter-Terrorism Department and Safe Cities Authority are exempted from the directive, it added.
