Man held in Tank with hashish

TANK: The police claimed to have arrested a man with a huge quantity of hashish and opium here on Saturday.

Addressing a media briefing at his office, district police officer Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada said on a tip-off a police party headed by SHO city police station Naqeebullah and supervised by DSP headquarters Iqbal Baloch started checking vehicles at the Latif checkpost on the main Dera Ismail Khan Road.

During checking of a truck, the police recovered over 350 kilogrammes of hashish and 60 kilogrammes of opium being taken to Punjab, Mr Sahibzada said. He said the truck driver, Mohammad Ghulam, a resident of Bahawalpur, was arrested.

Meanwhile, activists of Awami National Party on Saturday held a rally against the prevailing inflation.

The participants led by ANP district president Fazal Kareem Tatoor marched from the Sabir Bazaar to the Traffic Chowk. The party workers were raising slogans against the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government.

Later, a caravan of ANP workers left for Peshawar to join the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s rally on Sunday (today).

Meanwhile, two teachers were suspended for absenting duty. District education officer Umar Khan Kundi paid surprise visits to various schools and inspected the attendance of teachers and availability of facilities. On the occasion, he ordered suspension of two teachers after finding them absent from duty.
