PBC wants IG ‘kidnap’ probe report made public

ISLAMABAD: The vice chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), Abid Saqi, on Friday urged the federal government to make public the report of the Court of Inquiry regarding the unfortunate incident in which the inspector general of police, Sindh, was “abducted”.

He also called for disclosure of names of officials of different agencies against whom departmental action had been taken.

Mr Saqi emphasised that publication of the report and names of delinquent officials, being in line with the right to information of people, as enshrined under Article 19-A of the constitution, would not only enhance people’s confidence in different institutions but would also be a cause of deterrence for serving officials to remain within their lawful domain of responsibilities while discharging official duties and not to indulge in extra-constitutional and illegal activities.
