Fake FIA officer arrested for defrauding public

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency’s Cybercrime Wing on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspect posing as an FIA officer and committing financial fraud with the general public by using electronic means and other tactics, said additional director of the FIA Faizullah Korejo.

An FIA team acting on a tip-off and after conducting an inquiry carried out a raid in Landhi and arrested Irfan Khan, who was posing as an assistant director of FIA Cybercrime Wing in Karachi.

The suspect used to say that his wife was an additional sessions judge in Karachi.

The FIA team also seized several digital equipment from his possession during the raid.

“In view of facts, circumstances and evidence collected so far, prima facie Irfan Khan impersonated an officer of FIA Cybercrime and received financial gains from the general public fraudulently,” said the officer.

A criminal case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the law, the officer added.
