Wonder Craft: Sunburst wall décor

Almost everyone loves a decorated house and the first thing someone notices are the walls. If they are not well-decorated or are empty, no one gets impressed, but if they are well-decorated ,everyone adores your taste. So I have come up with a unique wall decor called sunburst.

This has lately been rather popular, but quite expensive to buy from stores. So let’s make this beautiful wall décor, after all DIY is all about making useless stuff reusable in a smarter way.

Things you need:

  1. A round mirror, (you can either buy from a general store or use any useless that you have at home).

  2. Hot glue or white glue.

  3. Drinking straws (a lot of these, but it also depends on the size of the mirror you are using).

  4. Piece of hardboard (two inches larger than the mirror you are using)

  5. Spray paint: golden (you can use acrylic colours as well)

  6. Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut the hardboard piece two or three inches larger in diameter than the mirror you are using; place the mirror in the centre of the hardboard piece and draw circle with the pencil, picture 2.

  2. Take the straws, stretch the bendy side and dab some hot glue over it, then quickly paste it on the outer line of the pencilled circle, leaving the inside empty; picture 4.

  3. Keep pasting the straws in a circular line carefully, picture 5.

  4. You will notice the straws in circular shape will still have some space among them, you have to fill that up as well by pasting the straws an inch or so away from the pencilled circle, see picture 6.

  5. You can create the sunburst in any colour, but metallic colours look better than others, I preferred using the golden spray paint, pictures 7 and 8.

  6. It’s time to paste the mirror in the centre with hot glue, pictures 9 and 10.

Our drinking straw sunburst is ready to be mounted on the wall.
