Water supply from Khanpur Dam to be restored today

RAWALPINDI: Water supply to the twin cities from Khanpur Dam will be restored today after two days.

It was halted due to an electrical fault on Saturday due to which residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad faced acute water shortage. Areas most affected were Pirwadhai, Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, Dhoke Matkal, Shamsabad, Iqbal Town, Muslim Town, Sadiqabad along with parts of Satellite Town and cantonment.

Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) usually receives six million gallons daily (MGD) from Khanpur Dam while Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) receive 9MGD.

Upon being contacted, Wasa spokesman Umer Farooq said water supply would be restored on Monday morning, adding that a fault developed in the electricity line to Sangjani filtration plant which was fixed on Sunday.
