LAKKI MARWAT: A local cement company has launched the second scholarship programme within a year for the poor Lakki Marwat students to help them continue their education.

A factory official said on Monday that a vocational training scholarship programme had also been launched for the youths during the current year.

“Under the programme the eligible students of higher secondary grades can apply for full scholarship,” maintained the official, adding the company would cover the tuition fee of the selected students.

He said the programme would help make education accessible and affordable to deserving students, especially from the rural areas.

THREE ARRESTED: The police on Monday arrested three persons and recovered drugs and arms from them during raids in Titterkhel and Tajazai localities.

The Ghaznikhel police raided the suspected hideouts of criminals in the rural localities, said an official, adding two drug traffickers, Akhtar Zaman and Wajahatullah, were held in Titterkhel along with 1,050 grams and 1,300 grams hashish, respectively. The same police seized a small quantity of ice drug, a rifle and ammunition from a place in Tajazai, the official said, adding drug peddler Mir Aslam escaped before the police reached there.

The police also arrested one Ramzan and seized a repeater gun and cartridges from him.

Meanwhile, in a joint action on Monday the district administration and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority sealed a storehouse of spices in the Bannu city and arrested the dealer.

The officials seized sacks of spices adulterated with non-food material and sealed the warehouse.
