Rain disaster

AFTER the devastating rains in Karachi a couple of months ago, the federal government had announced a Karachi relief package worth nearly one trillion rupees. Unfortunately, if any relief work has been done in this respect, it is not visible to the residents of the city. In fact, broken roads along with large potholes continue to pose a risk to the lives of commuters in many localities, particularly Manghopir, SITE, North Karachi and Nazimabad.

After the rains, the provincial chief minister had also announced an immediate release of Rs1.3 billion for the repair of roads in SITE area, but nothing has been done to date.

The only ‘action’ taken so far is that potholes in some localities have been filled with solid waste and disused bricks and stones. This of course is no solution at all, as it makes driving even more hazardous, especially for motorcyclists.

For how long will the residents of Karachi continue to suffer?
