Containers placed at Aabpara to block Red Zone

ISLAMABAD: Containers were brought to Khayaban-i-Suhrwardy to block possible entry of people into Red Zone to protest against the French government.

Besides, the police force providing security cover on Eid Milad were asked to reach Aabpara before any rally, including the Milad procession, reached there on Friday.

The capital administration also banned pillion riding in the city for one day (Friday).

Senior police officers told Dawn that Special Branch issued an alert that some religious parties and other segments of society, including traders, have planned a protest in the high security area on Rabiul Awwal 12. In response, the capital administration and police decided to seal both ends of Khayban-i-Suhrwardy.

The first security ring will be made at a petrol pump near Aabpara Chowk and the second at Serena Hotel Chowk, the officers said, adding containers were being put near Aabpara Chowk.

Paramilitary troops are also being deployed at the edge and inside the Red Zone as well as around the Diplomatic Enclave.

In-charges of police contingents, deployed at different places of the city, were asked to report at the petrol pump near Aabpara Chowk. However, police deployed on the route of the Milad procession will remain deployed there.

Islamabad police along with 590 officers and officials of Rangers and personnel of other law enforcement agencies will perform patrolling and security duties and the main procession starting from G-7 will be cordoned off through heavy deployment.
