One killed, another injured in shooting

RAWALPINDI: A man was killed and a woman injured when unidentified individuals opened fire on the car they were travelling in on Saidpur Road on Monday.

Two others, including a three-year-old child, were unhurt, police said.

The shooting took place within the limits of the New Town police.

Police said that two people on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire on the car near Hailey Waterworks, commonly known as Kali Tanky, on Saidpur Road. A man, identified as Imran, was killed and a woman identified as Kainat was injured. Another man and the child were not hurt.

Police said the shooters escaped.

A contingent of police led by Rawal Division Superintendent of Police Rai Mazhar and New Town Station House Officer Inspector Javed Iqbal Mirza visited the crime scene and collected evidence.

The deceased and injured victims were taken to a hospital.

Mr Mirza said the motive behind the attack was an “old enmity”. He said the victims were colleagues at a private laboratory, and that the woman was recently divorced.

An FIR has been registered against the unidentified shooters and the police are investigating the murder from various angles, he added.
