KU signs MoU for Unesco chair

KARACHI: The Karachi University (KU) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) on Friday inked an agreement to establish a Unesco chair on medicinal and bio-organic natural product chemistry at the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS).

In this respect, a ceremony was held at the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry where acting KU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Mehmood Iraqi signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on behalf of the university. The MoU has already been signed by Unesco Director General Audrey Azoulay in Paris on Oct 2. The Unesco chair was approved in the Unesco General Assembly this year.

Thanking Unesco officials for their support, Prof Iraqi and said the university today reached another milestone.

In her video message, Patricia McPhillips congratulated KU for setting up the Unesco chair at the ICCBS. Prof Atta-ur-Rahman, chairman of Prime Minister’s Task Force on Science and Technology, said it was an honour for the ICCBS and the university.
