PU college marks World Statistics Day

LAHORE: The Punjab University (PU) College of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences has marked third World Statistics Day under the theme of “Connecting the World with Data We can Trust”.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, Faculty of Sciences Dean Dr Muhammad Sharif, Academic Staff Association President Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar, ASA Secretary Javed Sami, CSAS Principal Prof Dr Sohail Chand, faculty members and students participated in the event.

A panel discussion was arranged by the college in which renowned statisticians from industry and academia gave their input regarding the theme.

Prof Chand highlighted the significance of the data in changing lives and said that there was a need for more investment in the fields of data and statistics to cope with the national as well as international challenges through which today’s world could make progress scientifically.

Meanwhile, the Chevening Pakistan team on Tuesday called on Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed at his office. The team included Head Communication and Public Diplomacy Fauzia, Head of Chevening Pakistan Shahla Qayyum and Chevening scholar Hassan Yousaf Shah. Heads of various departments and a few PU students also attended the meeting.

The agenda of the meeting included awareness and promotion of Chevening scholarship for one-year masters, UK-Pakistan friendship campaign, and UK’s contribution to the government and education sectors and Chevening engagement with PU in the coming years.

The meeting included fruitful discussion on the agenda items and the UK team also responded to the student queries.

VC Prof Ahmed encouraged the students to compete for grants such as Chevening and continue efforts to become better productive citizens.
