LAHORE: The Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture (Pilac) observed the seventh death anniversary of singer Zubaida Khanum (1935-2013) on Monday by inaugurating a folk studio and remembering her through her songs. Singer Aman Ali sang songs of the late singer.

Speaking on the occasion, Pilac Director General Dr Sughra Sadaf said Khanum was prolific playback singer though she did not belong to any gharana of singers. She said her short span of singing in the film industry would keep her alive. She said Khanum’s songs reflected Punjab’s rich culture and traditions.

Ms Sadaf said the folk studio’s inauguration also marked the death anniversary of a great singer of her times.

She said Zubaida Khanum sang immortal songs, which could not be forgotten and her career spanning over some eight years gave industry a golden catalogue of songs.

She said the folk studio would invite a singer and a poet every week for talk and performance but the inauguration of the studio had been done with a special segment on Zubaida Khanum. The songs of Khanum sung by Aman Ali were also aired on FM 95.

The songs sung in the event included Meri Chuni Diyan Raishmi Tandan, Mera Dil Channa Kach Da Khidona and Sayyo Ni Mera Dil Dharkay.
