RAWALPINDI: Three government schools in Rawalpindi and Gujar Khan were sealed by the district administration after Covid-19 cases were detected in the institutions on Saturday.

Moreover, a fine of Rs10,000 fine was imposed on a petrol filing station in Taxila for not adopting the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Anwarul Haq told Dawn that one government school in Gujar Khan and two institutions in Rawalpindi city were closed after detection of Covid-19 cases there. He said the petrol pump in Taxila was fined for failing to adopt the SOPs.

He said all private and public sector educational institutions had been asked to follow the SOPs otherwise action would be taken against them.

He said 12 positive cases were detected in 57 government educational institutions in the last 25 days. Five of the infected people were faculty members and seven students. The deputy commissioner said 250 marriage halls were checked and those found violating the SOPs were fined Rs95,000. Besides, two of them were issued warnings.

Meanwhile, three women died of Covid-19 at the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) while 17 people tested positive for the virus on Saturday.

Filling station in Taxila fined Rs10,000 for not adopting Covid-19 SOPs

A 64-year-old resident of Satellite Town was admitted to a private hospital on October 8 where she died on Saturday. A 58-year-old woman from Bahria Town Phase-8 was admitted to the RIU on September 21 where she died on Friday night.

Another woman, aged 75, a resident of Ratta Amral, was admitted to Quaid-i-Azam International Hospital on October 8. She also died on Friday night.

With the new cases, the tally of confirmed patients in Rawalpindi district increased to 7,173 while 295 people have died of the disease and 6,695 others discharged after recovery. However, 315 patients are waiting for their test results.

Total 183 confirmed patients are under treatment, including 27 at the RIU. Among them, 20 patients belong to the Rawalpindi district and the remaining seven were from other districts. Besides, 183 patients are isolated in their homes.

The local administration also keeps 589 people in quarantine and their results are awaited. As many as 10 District Health Authority teams have been deployed to check the patients isolated in 156 houses.

Gujar Khan

The girls high school in Bhata village of Gujar Khan was sealed after one of its employees tested positive on Saturday.

According to the health authorities, the infected person has been isolated in his home and samples of teachers and students have been collected.

The total number of positive cases in Gujar Khan has reached 319 while 49 people have died of the disease.

Islamabad

As many as 88 Covid-19 cases were reported in Islamabad on Saturday.

Nine of the positive cases were reported from G-10 followed by six each from I-8, I-10 and G-7, four each from G-15, G-11, E-11 and DHA, three each from National Police Foundation, G-9, G-13, F-8 and F-6, two each from Ghouri Town, G-8, G-5, F-7, F-11, F-10, Bhara Kahu and Bahria Town, and one each from Taramri, Sohan, Shahzad Town, River Garden, Police Lines, Model Town, Media Town, Korang Town, I-9, H-8, H-13, Chak Shahzad, Banigala and Bahria Enclave.
