ISLAMABAD: Three days after getting control of major departments of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has initiated civic work in Islamabad.

A press release issued by the authority on Thursday stated: “Civic works in Islamabad have gained momentum following shifting of four formations of MCI to CDA. CDA administration on directions of Chairman CDA Amer Ali Ahmed for rapid improvement in working of all four formations recently transferred to CDA has chalked out a comprehensive plan of action.”

It said that carpeting of Islamabad Expressway is in progress, adding that in order to achieve desired results, the under-utilised asphalt mixing plant of the Machinery Pool Organisation (MPO) has been made functional for the production of asphaltic material used to carpet roads. The plant, which has capacity to produce 500 to 600 tonnes of material per day remained closed for several months, the press release said.

The plant, it added, has been made functional and the chairman of the authority has directed concerned officers to get production up to maximum capacity so that desired results may be achieved. Along with carpeting and patch work on Islamabad Expressway, work has also been initiated in other sectors of Islamabad. In the first phase, carpeting of roads in the I sectors has begun; it will be done in streets and roads in markets.

Simultaneously, special teams have started removing growth of wild shrubs along Constitution Avenue, 9th Avenue, Srinagar Highway, Margalla Road and F-9 Park along with other roads in the city.

To boost sanitation services in Islamabad, a dual-shift sanitation service has been initiated particularly in markets and commercial areas. The cleaning of nullahs is also in progress along Margalla Road.

Repair of off road vehicles of sanitation directorate has also been started. It said the water supply wing has also bolstered its activities and fixed 10 leaks in main water lines in different areas of the city.
