Justified solidarity

THIS refers to the editorial ‘Strange solidarity’ (Oct 4). Undoubtedly, coronavirus cases are on the rise in the country these days. The PPP government in Sindh has taken effective measures to save the citizens from the deadly virus.

A few months ago, when there was a lockdown in the country, the PPP had not only stopped all political activities, including cancelation of the anniversary event of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, but had also avoided holding internal party meetings.

At present, all industrial, economic, business, educational, political and other activities across the country are going on with due precautionary measures. Apart from citizens using public transport, people are commuting in their cars and motorbikes, elections are being held in Gilgit-Baltistan, by-elections are being held in various constituencies, and even preparations for local body elections are underway.

As all religious and political parties are carrying out their activities without any restrictions, therefore, the PPP Karachi took up its fight against the forces of hatred and division on the basis of language in the city, and organised a positive political activity in the shape of Karachi Solidarity Rally. All coronavirus SOPs, like using masks and avoiding hugs and handshakes, were observed in the right spirit, and the participants were urged to stay in their respective vehicles.

The PPP has always welcomed suggestions presented by media and this occasion is no exception.
