From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1945: Seventy-five years ago: Hitler’s engagement book

LONDON: Hitler’s engagement book … has been found, scorched and battered in the bomb-ruined cellar under the Chancellery in Berlin. The “Evening Standard” today [Sept 24] published a facsimile of a page from the book. The extracts from the written record note the Fuehrer’s every movement, appointment and conference during the six vital months.

The engagement book, which was kept by Hitler’s personal adjutant … reveals that every day ended with a midnight tea party where there were always women, and which lasted several hours. Guests were few … and parties began any time from midnight…. This was Hitler’s time for relaxation. …Surprisingly, the book contains no mention of any visit by Eva Braun, who was later to be revealed as the Fuehrer’s mistress. The book shows that Hitler was seldom in bed before 2 a.m. and the average time of retiring was 3 a.m. Sometimes he was awake until 5.

Hitler usually rose at about noon, took a short walk and breakfasted at about 1 p.m., when he occasionally received callers. Then came the first of the day’s important conferences, at which the war situation was discussed….
