Police launch child abuse awareness campaign

MANSEHRA: The police have launched a campaign across the district to educate students and street children on how to prevent sexual abuse.

“You should never interact with strangers and even avoid acquaintances on the way to school and return and should advise brothers and sisters against receiving sweets and other things from anybody outside homes,” deputy superintendent of police (central) Bashir Khan told students during a session organised by the police at the higher secondary school for boys in Attarshisha area here on Friday.

The DSP said parents, teachers, ulema and other members of society should join hands to prevent and control child abuse.

“In light of the growing incidence of sexual assaults against children in the country, deputy inspector general of police Qazi Jamilur Rehman had ordered an awareness campaign for schoolchildren and street children on ways to prevent abuse and help police bring culprits to justice,” he said.

The DSP said the police would also stage rallies and walks to educate children and parents on abuse prevention.

ARRESTED: The food department on Friday arrested the owners of a fake spice factory here on Chinar Road.”During a raid, we seized a large quantity of fake spices made from wooden dust and other items. Packaged in fake boxes of popular brands, the spices are sold on the market,” assistant food controller Shaukat Sultan told reporters.

He said the crackdown launched on the orders of the food secretary would ensure the sale of healthy spices and foods.

The official said factory owners Sher Alam and Mohammad Atif would be produced before a local magistrate for remand.
