District Central teams bag top honours at SGA sports festival

KARACHI: The Sindh Games Association (SGA) arranged a Defence Day Sports Festival in the metropolis recently which included archery, sepaktakraw and puck ball events which were very well attended by the fans.

In the sepaktakraw event, District Central beat District Central 2-1 to clinch the men’s title. Zain, Yazdan, Azizuddin and Shiraz played superbly to bring victory to Central.

In the women’s event, Malir defeated District South 3-2 with Sedrah and Anila Khan were declared the best players.

In the archery men’s event, Ahsan Zaman stood first, Dr. Zia was the runner-up while Ibrahim Khan came third. In the girls’ event, Kanwal stood first, Qartaleen was second and Fahila Rashid was third.

In the puck ball event District Central team was the winner with Zuhair Ali, Shahid, Ahmed, Khizr and Bilal putting up splendid show.

The Indonesian Consul General Totok Priyanomoto was the chief guest and distributed the trophies, medals and certificates among the players and teams. He appreciated the event in their speech and said Pakistan and Indonesia are brotherly nations. “Pakistani team will be invited to Indonesia soon and the Indonesian sepaktakraw team will also visit Pakistan soon,” he said.

Mudassar Arain, President, Sindh Games Association was the guest of honor on the occasion. In his address, he congratulated Syed Israrul Hassan Abidi, Secretary, Sindh Games Association Karachi and his team for organizing the successful events. Mudassar further announced that soon SGA will hold division wise ceremonies for the players and officials who have won medals in the previous editions of Sindh Games.
