JI chief slates govt over security situation

LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami emir Senator Sirajul Haq says the PTI government has made it impossible for the children and women to go outside of their homes.

“A law of jungle is prevailing in the country and the rulers are in deep slumber,” he regretted.

He was addressing a sit-in in front of Chief Minister Secretariat here on Thursday to protest deteriorating law and order in Punjab.

Declaring the present regime as the most incapable in history of the country, the JI chief said the PTI had disappointed the masses and deceived them in a way that was not witnessed earlier although former rulers were no less responsible for the destruction of the country. He said the tall claims were made by the prime minister to bring about reforms in every sector but his government had not introduced a single reform in any sector in the last two years.

The biggest province of the country, he said, was presenting a pathetic situation of governance as its every sector was on the verge of collapse due to incompetence of the team imposed by the PM on Punjab.

“We have gathered here to record out protest against the increasing rate of rape incidents and the government’s complete failure to provide safety to the masses,” he said.

Mr Haq said the PML-N and the PPP were equally responsible for the passage of Financial Action Task Force-related bills in the parliament and the government and mainstream opposition parties had surrendered freedom of Pakistani nation before the international powers. He said the entire FATF-related legislation was based on ill-intentions, having dreadful impact on the future of the country. He added the big political parties and powerful establishment appeared on the same page in admitting defeat before the India-backed international lobby, which had been blaming Pakistan for sponsoring the terror activities in the world.

JI Secretary General Ameerul Azim, deputy emir Liaqat Baloch, Jamaiat Ahle Hadith chief Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer and other leaders also spoke.
